Enter text or numbers into one or more of the three search boxes
offered, then select the "Search" button.
- Refining your
search
If your query results in too many or too few hits, you can refine your
search by using the "Widen", "Narrow" or "Exclude" options. If you
select the "Search" option, a new search starts.
- Search Tips
When searching using the AnyText option both upper and lower
case letters can be used.
You can use * for wildcard searches e.g. Smith* will find Smith,Smithe,
Smithson,etc. Sm*th wil find Smith, Smyth etc.
You can use the DocumentRef option, if you already have a
reference number and would like to view a description of the record. It
can also be used to limit your search to a particular collection, if
you know the reference for the collection ( e.g. P1 = Abdon parish
collection).
The search by Date field can be used to narrow your search to a
particular date or span of dates. There are a wide variety of
date formats
which can be recognised.
Search Results
- Hit List - The results of your search are displayed as a list,
with the total number of hits given at the top. You can change the
order of the results by selecting one of the headings.
- Individual record - The context of the record is given first,
with the name of the collection at the top.
- Catalogue view - This view shows the record in the context of
its collection. You can view other records in the same collection by
selecting the adjacent icon links.
